Carson boasts a robust arts program including band, chorus, dance, theater, technical theater, and visual arts. In addition to ensemble performances and competitions throughout the year, the programs synergize around the production of a musical each Spring that engages over 10% of the total student body.

ROAR, which stands for Real Opportunities and Relationships, is a thirty minute block of time that occurs every day between first and second block. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, students report to Advisory which primarily exists to ensure every student at Carson has an identified adult advocate. Advisory also provides time for post-secondary planning, social-emotional learning, and academic check-ins. On Tuesday and Thursday, students participate in clubs or tutorials. Each week, teachers review student performance data in order to assign students to tutoring. Students not identified for tutoring may participate in one of JCHS’s 30 clubs and activities.

JCHS calculates both unweighted and weighted Grade Point Averages (GPA). Courses are graded on a 10-point, numeric scale (A=90-100, B= 80-89, C=70-79, D=60-69, F≤59) though some transcripts may show letter grades from previous schools. GPA is reported on a weighted 4.0 scale. Honors classes earn an extra .5 point; AP and College Transfer Pathway CCP classes earn an extra 1 point. GPA and class rank are calculated at the conclusion of each semester.

JCHS consistently maintains a graduation rate above 90% each year. Graduating students must fulfill North Carolina’s Future Ready Core requirements along with the additional criteria set by Rowan-Salisbury Schools. Students can achieve Honor Graduate status by attaining the required weighted GPA, and they may also earn the designation of NC Academic Scholar (state).
